Carpet tile remains the standard for open offices because it absorbs sound, hides wear and can be replaced one tile at a time. Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is common in kitchens, reception areas and meeting rooms.

Entrances take the worst wear, especially with salt and slush in winter. We specify walk-off matting zones, porcelain tile or polished concrete at entries, and LVT or polished concrete through the sales floor.

Warehouse floors need to handle forklifts, pallet jacks and racking loads. The usual solution is repairing and densifying the existing slab, polishing it or applying a warehouse floor coating.

Healthcare floors need to be cleanable and seamless. Sheet vinyl with heat-welded seams and flash coving, where the floor turns up the wall as an integral base, leaves no joints for dirt or fluid to collect in.

We install to infection-control practices in occupied clinics, including dust containment and working after hours. Flooring for a dental office also has to handle rolling chairs and stool casters, which sheet vinyl handles well.

The best flooring for a gym depends on what happens on it. Weight areas need rubber flooring, typically 8mm to 3/4 inch thick, to absorb dropped loads and protect the slab.

Studios for yoga, dance or group fitness may need a sprung or cushioned floor with a vinyl or wood surface. Where heavy equipment sits on a wood-framed floor, we check subfloor deflection before specifying anything.

Commercial kitchens need slip resistance, chemical resistance and tolerance for hot water and steam cleaning. Urethane cement systems handle thermal shock from hot water and grease better than standard epoxy.

We also consider drainage falls toward floor drains and coved bases for easy washdown. Dining rooms often suit LVT, porcelain tile or polished concrete.
