Rockwood is a village with two kinds of homes. The older core near the Eramosa River and the Rockwood Conservation Area has stone and brick houses from the 1800s and early 1900s, built on the same limestone that forms the conservation area's cliffs. Around the village, newer subdivisions and large rural properties toward Eden Mills and Everton make up the rest.

Limestone-Era Village Homes
Rockwood's older homes sit on stone foundations, often built with local limestone. Many have plank subfloors laid directly over rough-sawn joists, and framing that has settled over a century or more.
That means floors that slope toward the middle of the house, gaps between boards, and hardwood or softwood floors that have been patched many times. Basements are often low, damp and uneven.
In these homes, levelling and subfloor repair usually come first. We check slope, fasten loose boards, sister weak joists where needed and add a plywood overlay before installing floating floors.
Rural and Conservation-Area Properties
Between Rockwood, Eden Mills and the surrounding township roads, there are larger homes on acreage, many built from the 1980s onward. These properties typically have more square footage, open-plan main floors and larger staircases.
Solid hardwood is common here, along with engineered wood over radiant heat in newer custom builds. Many owners also want stair recapping and refinishing as the original floors age.
Larger jobs mean more planning around acclimation and material delivery, which we schedule at the measure.
