According to Statistics Canada census data, Milton's population grew by 71 percent between 2001 and 2006 and another 56 percent between 2006 and 2011. It was the fastest-growing municipality in Canada across that decade.
Building at that pace meant builders fitted homes with the most economical flooring available. Entry-level laminate on the main floor, carpet on the stairs and upstairs, and small ceramic tile in bathrooms and entries were the norm.
