Where Vinyl Makes Sense in a Kitchener Home
Vinyl plank is waterproof, warm enough underfoot and tough on scratches. We recommend it most for basements, kitchens, laundry rooms, mudrooms and rental units.

Older Kitchener Basement Slabs
Basements in pre-1970s Kitchener homes often have thin slabs poured without a vapour barrier underneath. Many also slope toward a floor drain and have old tile, paint or adhesive residue on the surface.
We test slab moisture before choosing an underlay or adhesive, and we use a poly vapour retarder under floating vinyl where the manufacturer calls for it. Humps are ground down and dips are filled with self-levelling compound, since most rigid-core planks need the floor within 3/16 inch over 10 feet.
Around floor drains, we feather the slope rather than levelling it flat, so water still reaches the drain. If the slab has cracks that move or a history of water, we will say so before recommending any floor.
Condo Vinyl and Sound Ratings
Downtown Kitchener condos around King Street, Victoria Street and the Innovation District mostly sit on concrete slabs. Condo boards typically require flooring to meet a minimum impact sound rating and ask for product data sheets before approving work.
We supply the plank and underlay specifications your property manager needs, book elevators and loading access and work within the building's permitted hours. Acoustic underlay adds a little height, so we check door clearances and transitions to tiled areas at the measure.

Kitchener Vinyl Questions
Can vinyl go over my existing basement tile?
Often, if the tile is flat, well bonded and has no cracked or hollow tiles. We fill grout lines where needed so they don't telegraph. Loose or cracked tile comes out first.
Is vinyl plank really waterproof?
The planks are. Water can still get under the floor at the edges, so in basements and bathrooms we seal perimeters where the manufacturer allows and leave proper expansion gaps under trim.
How soon can a rental unit be used again?
Floating vinyl can be walked on right away. Glue-down products usually need a day before heavy furniture goes back.
